At the Red Tent Women’s Circle Today

women circle meditation

As a women’s holistic doctor I firmly believe that if a woman is feeling supported. loved, honoured and nurtured – her physical and emotional health will have a power for remarkable healing and well-being. So I do red tent style women’s gatherings and circles.

Today my husband was graciously playing with my young son and off I went. Backpack on my back with posters, beads, herbal teas, silk cloths, milk sweets, pens, papers and signs!

I cycled down the packed and busy village road in India. I live at a pilgrimage site and being Sunday it was packed! Buses come and drop off people there from near and far villages and towns. I mazed my way through the throngs of  small Bengali’s and their bright red and yellow saris. Cycling in public roads in India definitely takes practice- and I am still practicing! I drilled my little bell hoping they would stay to the side as I dodged buses and their loud elaborate song horns, motorbikes whisked past me with their deep incessant and very urgent hooters making them seem far more close and menacing than they really are. Bicycles, rickshaws, people, Indian spitting…smells of fried puris, the odd beedie being smoked, car fumes and incense. Shops playing their Krishna dance videos with children singing Krishna bhajans on the small screens for all the shopping pilgrims.

Then it opened up and their was a relief from the intensity! The shops were left in the distance and the roadside revealed the nature. Cows walked slowly, the air felt fresher, cars and buses became less and I could see the rice paddies on the left, still soaked from when the river Ganges flooded last month. Green, blue..space and beautiful. I appreciated the rhythm of my bicycle peddling round and round. Passing the rickshaw bicycle also cycling round and round with its regular squeak. Squeak. Squeak. Strangely reassuring and lulling.

I started enjoying my ride and appreciating the village atmosphere here. I put up my sign saying “Women’s Gathering Here” at the turnoff from the main road. Directions in India can be very confusing – “Carry on until you see a road on your left…don’t turn there! Turn at the small lane 8 metres after that road!” So I placed some signs so people would know!

And again at the nameless apartment block.

DSCN1295Inside the beautifully decorated Spa – a perfect space to honour and nurture women – I set up a small altar with rich pink silk scarf I had bought in Jaipur. Some beautiful women figures, beads, incense in my lotus incense holder from Bali and my African Sage and Lavender smudgestick from my Chinese doctor friend in Cape Town.

Some soft music, some Rooibos and Mint tea on the boil.

We chatted, we shared, we shed a tear, we laughed, we loved and appreciated and respected and learnt. We holding hands discovered this is ImPOrtANt! Every young and old girl and woman should have this opportunity as a human right. It should be part of the community script that every woman has the opportunity to feel part of a caring community of women. Where she can share her fears, doubts and learn from her older mothers, sisters about her body, her fertility, her mooncycle, her sexuality, childmaking, childrearing, pregnancy, birth…. in a circle of non-judgemental, caring and loving others.

We are an international community and we were internationally represented this afternoon.

I left touched, grateful and appreciated!

I want to do more! I want to honour women so much for the role and significance they play in society.

I have so much planned to share and to nurture our Sacred Ladies!

I rode home eager to embrace my sons, listening to their excited time with his dad and the cows; and cycling with friends.

Natural Mooncycle Care

As a holistic Women’s health and wellness doctor I am very enthusiastic and dedicated to supporting ecological and natural ways to support women’s health and well-being. When it comes to our moon cycle I am all supportive and love working with the actual lunar cycles, honouring our femininity, our fertility and our womb messages.

A big part of honouring our moon cycles is to find a Mother Earth friendly, hygienic and comfortable way to support our flow. The more we find out about how long pads and tampons take to decompose (500 years and 5 years respectively), their affect on the environment AND their affect on our bodies (their chemical (dioxin, aluminium) contents) – the more it becomes apparent that natural and earth-friendly alternatives are needed.

Many are using cups all ready and cloth pads. Sea sponges are still unique on the market and are a good alternative when used hygienically and properly. So I am giving it a try! And since I love the idea so much and want to support Mothers and Mother Earth too – and teach what valuable gems and info I gather around women’s health and well-being – I would like to offer you an opportunity too so I am making them available for those who are interested.

I plan to try them out personally along with the complete set of re-usable (soft, colourful and comfortable) pads as I need during my moon time. And as I love sharing ideas and teaching what valuable gems and info I gather around women’s health and well-being – I would like to offer you an opportunity too.

If you are ready for ecological alternatives for a comfortable moon time care and would like to use the sponges or / and clothers – you are welcome to call me for more info or an order. There will be an opening sale of discounts for first 2 weeks.

Motherwort – mothering the mother!

The more I read about the herb Motherwort, Leonurus cardiaca, the more I feel so warmed and drawn to her amazing healing potentials!

motherwort1

She is a herb that feels especially healing for women! Just the names “Mother Wort” means “Healing herb for mothers”. And the Latin name translates as “Lion Hearted”. As it also has healing properties for the heart and arrythmias or heart palpitations. But I also love that this could encompass the magnaminous and heart-giving love a Mother has – which can often deplete her physically and how wonderfully this herb can support and heal that physically and emotionally or energetically.

Motherwort is particularly healing and supporting for women in the postpartum period – helping for exhaustion and irritability; as well as at any time of hormonal changes causing mood swings and lability (like PMS and perimenopause). It is a good nervine – basically an anti-stress herb. Supporting the body to cope with stress and relax in times of anxiety.

It also has action on the uterus – toning it while soothing any cramps and afterbirth pains or period pains. It is also known as an emmenagogue as it can assist to bring on a period in ammenorhea and therefore is also not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Actually Susun Weed says “What makes motherwort special is her tonic effect in addition to the pain relief. Motherwort tones the uterine muscle and eventually–usually within four months–eliminates those menstrual cramps for good.” mw leaf

Motherwort tastes bitter – and it can improve liver function – an important aspect of improving hormonal health.

You can use it as a tincture or a tea (though it is bitter to drink). The tincture dose is 2-4ml 2-3 times a day or one cup of tea (herbal infusion) a day.

And just a reminder that it is not safe in pregnancy and no other known side effects.

Personally I love to drink it as a tea daily to support my female system as well as my nervous system.

I make one product for postpartum contraction pains (those really painful ones for the first few days after birth – especially after your second or more baby). It contains Motherwort and some other herbs to assist with the pain and tone the uterus).

Connecting with your Unborn Child

Every pregnant lady deserves to be spoilt and made to feel beautiful and amazing!
Every pregnant lady deserves to be spoilt and made to feel beautiful and amazing!

Pregnancy is a time of deep and wonderful transformation for a woman. A time when she may be faced with many life-changing decisions, questions and searching. A time that may evoke challenges, joys and fears. Each pregnancy is surrounded by its own unique story and each holds within it the very same common thread – of stepping into the unknown.

Although I have been through medical school, busy obstetric and antenatal wards and clinics, severely ill patients as well as serene and romantic homebirths – I remain convinced that THE MOST IMPORTANT THING we CAN do with pregnant mothers – for their health, for the health of the pregnancy, labour and birth AND for the babies health – is to become very connected, in-tune and respectful of the miraculous process that is hapenning – of the mother growing her baby.

blessing baby

Soula acknowledges the unique journey for each individual and offers a way to connect with the baby growing in a mother’s womb. The process does this by engaging active imagination, in a relaxed state.

We use the language of images as this is the language of consciousness and the language of the baby – being preverbal. It is a language that the baby can understand and interact with. By using this we also arm the mother with a wonderful tool to continue to use in communicating with her baby. As she can continue to give and receive gifts and messages in the form of images and symbols.

The connection with her unborn baby allows questions to be asked and answers to come. Importantly we ask “what does the baby need to feel supported by the mother?” and this can help to understand what it is that is needed for the pregnancy, the actual birth and the parenting following. Often it can give a very deep and important message to the

mother of what the baby needs emotionally or the quality of the state that she needs the mother to enter.

These images and messages can be recreated, written down and engaged with during labour and birth and can act as a powerful sense of reminder, calming and centring at these times.

The connection with the baby is a very deep and special connection that occurs on a deep spiritual level. It

is a connection that cannot be created by experiencing the physicality of one’s baby during an ultrasound scan, a palpation or a doppler. Not even a 4-d ultrasound! It is a quality of connection that engages your spirituality and a very deep aspect of your baby and your own soul.

In this way it allows a powerful connection that also holds a potential for healing. A healing for the mother AND a healing for the unborn baby. This healing is the actual connection with its mother on this level. Creating for it a special space of being heard, loved and connected with. The baby in the womb is sentient, conscious and interactive. It responds and it remembers with an aspect of its brain that has not yet developed the narrative ability to tell its story – but can do so with images – and remains in its subconscious. This time in the womb is a profound time of developing, forming what it will know as its reality or learning what is “normal” to it and is exquisitely controlled by the quality of the mothers emotions and state of mind.

Connecting with your unborn child in the womb

By connecting with your unborn child you are allowing a platform of such deep transformation, connecting, healing and loving that it most certainly heals the deep consciousness of your unborn child. It not only leaves you with a deep insight into the quality and nature of your baby but also leaves your baby feeling connected and acknowledged and leaves you both with an inexplicable anticipation for a wonderful reunion!
